This equally physical and metaphysically probing performance investigates and challenges the continued possession and exhibition of stolen African artefacts in Western public institutions abroad and serves as a metaphor to revive the conversation around intentional restitution. Of Loss - Handle With Care not only poses questions around this unjustly paraded theft and the deep generational grief that it has struck but also encourages the mirror to be tilted inwards and answers sought to questions like, “what is it that I have lost?”.
They have created a provocative, stylistic language through the radical merging of ethereal movement and transporting text and sonics, allowing us to journey through and interrogate this ancient and yet also extremely current human issue of dispossession, discount, and disregard, all in the arguably counterproductive pursuit of Western ‘art’ and collective and thus, personal recovery and discovery.
